Fifth Element

Because we loved each other like a natural disaster.

We were two natural elements:

Beautiful in the silence of their breath, Frightening at the height of their wrath.

We were a brush fire burning everything in our path.

Still.

We were invited to every camp circle to listen to intimate memories and share our flame.

Sometimes I was the ocean.

You were the sand and I would dance along your existence in a lovely bliss for your amusement.

Still.

We were the hurricane that broke down the walls and barriers of everything we knew.

We were two elements trying to co-exist in a world of chemistry and covalent bonds we didn’t understand. Some things just don’t mix. Not the way we’d like them too.

But I would never be the person I am without you.

To say I didn’t find distaste every second I hear your name would be beneath the truth. Yet, I’m thankful for the chemistry lessons, the beauty of the explosions and shallow waters we created.

I can never love anyone the way that I loved you. Because the way we loved was wrong.

We loved each other like a natural disaster.
